Article SummaryThis article is intended for Algonquin College employees who need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator App for Multifactor Authentication.
Through the R3 Project, ITS will be enhancing digital security and streamlining employee access to Algonquin digital resources and applications.  Login will soon require two factors: a password and a one-time code provided through an application (Microsoft Authenticator) on a mobile device.  This enhanced security is called “Multi-Factor Authentication” or MFA.  Some individuals are already using different MFA techniques.  This project will standardize MFA to a single technology from Microsoft.

In addition to enhancing security, the MFA project will reduce the number of times you need to enter your login password.  It will provide a single sign-on to a group of web-based applications, including Workday, Brightspace, MyAC, Salesforce, VPN, and the Microsoft 365 suite of apps (Outlook mail, PowerPoint etc.). The new Student Information System will be added subsequently.   Finally, the unified login will enable employees to reset their passwords directly, without the need to contact IT Help Desk.

Every month, from July 2021 to January 2022, groups of employees will be selected to register for MFA.
