How does a new employee get a network account?

What is my network account?

Your Algonquin College network account is used to access College digital services including Brightspace, email, network and wifi on campus (ACSecure), printing, and more. Note it is NOT used for ACSIS, see What is ACSIS?

Your staff network username is a unique combination of the first 6 letters of your last name, and your first initial. For example if your name is Pat Johnson, your network username may be johnsop. If someone already has that username, a number will be added to the end to make your account unique. For example: johnsop7.

How do I get a network account created?

New Algonquin College staff are assigned a network account when their hiring paperwork is processed by Human Resources. College network and email accounts are generated for all new employees (both part-time and full-time) once their information is entered into the Workday payroll system - the department no longer has to submit a paper form for this.

How long should it take?

When the hiring manager's request is entered into Workday, usually within 3 days ITS creates the new account automatically. Note: This may take longer at busy times of the year. Your supervisor or manager will receive an email notifying them when your account is created. ITS will send that manager your username and initial password.

How do I find my new account username and password?

You (the new employee) can get your new username and password from your manager. Otherwise you can get it at the ITS Service Desk if you bring one piece of photo ID. For help, see How to contact ITS.

I'm not full or part time staff, is the process the same?

The process is different for non FT / PT staff.
Note: Managers are required to fill out the Contractor Network Account Request form (accessible on the College network) if the staff member is one of the following:

  • Residence Staff member
  • Contractor
  • SA Staff member
  • Consultant
  • Facilitator

Please ensure the form contains as much information as possible prior to submitting it. This will prevent unnecessary delays in processing the request. This process typically takes one to two days, depending on the time of year.
