How do I configure the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to connect off-campus?

 Note: You cannot connect to the Secure Portal or VPN if you are connected to the college network.
If at any time you are given the chance to select additional features when installing or configuring the AnyConnect VPN client, disable all features except VPN.

To configure the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to connect from off-campus

The following steps assume that your computer is connected to the internet and you can connect to websites including
  1. Launch Cisco AnyConnect. You will be prompted for connection information the first time you launch the program. Note: If you have not installed AnyConnect already, do so now. For help, see How do I install Cisco AnyConnect?
  2. Enter for the server name and select Connect.
  3. You will be prompted for your Username and Password.
  1. Select OK. Your computer will attempt to contact the college.
When you are connected, the AnyConnect icon will appear with a padlock on it. At this point you are connected to the Algonquin college network as if you were logged in on campus.

Note: These steps should be the same no matter if you are using AnyConnect on a computer or mobile device.

As of 2018, the current version of AnyConnect for the college is version 4.5.
