How do I troubleshoot student online test issues in Blackboard?

The following steps show how faculty can clear a quiz attempt if a student has been "locked out" while taking a Blackboard online test.

In Blackboard, go to your Course > Grade center > Full grade center and look for any students who have a paper icon in the quiz column.

This icon indicates that a student has started the quiz and has not clicked on the submit button for the final question. It could also indicate that the student started the quiz and lost his/her internet connection to Blackboard and was locked out. Follow the instructions below to clear a quiz result and allow a student to retake the quiz.
 

Helping Students Resolve Issues With Tests

If a student experiences a technical problem while taking a test or if they need an additional attempt on an assessment, you can help them by submitting or clearing their test.
If the student was unable to submit their test, but they had completed the work, you can submit the attempt for them.

 

To submit a student's test for them

1. In the Grade Center, locate the cell containing their attempt, which will display the In Progress icon.
2. Click the cell to access the Action Link, and select View Grade Details.
3. On the Grade Details page, click View Attempt.
4. Check to make sure their answers were saved. If multiple questions are marked with No Answer, you may want to choose Clear Attempt instead.
5. Click the link to expand the Test Information section.
6. Click Submit Attempt.
7. Click OK to confirm the attempt submission.

If the student was unable to submit their test and would like to start over or if you would like to allow them to take the test again for different reasons, you can reset the test by clearing the attempt, which will allow them to re-submit.

 

To allow a student to re-take a test / start over

1. In the Grade Center, locate the cell containing their attempt, which will display the In Progress icon.
2. Click the cell to access the Action Link, and select View Grade Details.
3. On the Grade Details page, click View Attempt.
4. Click the link to expand the Test Information section.
5. Click Clear Attempt.
6. Click OK to confirm and remove the attempt.
