Article SummaryThis article explains how to lookup a telephone extension or number on campus.
This article is intended for all staff and students.
Instructions
You can look up a telephone number with the Auto-attendant, Online phonebook, Microsoft Outlook, or myAC.

Auto-Attendant

When you call the main campus phone number, you can state the name of the person you are looking for and the Auto-Attendant will confirm the name before connecting you to that person directly. Note: You may have to alter how you pronounce the name to get the system to recognize it.
You can also ask the system to connect you to a specific extension, or you can dial the extension.
While on campus you may access the Auto-Attendant dialling 0 on your phone.

Online Phonebook

On the Algonquin College website (www.algonquincollege.com) you can access the phonebook at the bottom of the screen. You do not need all the information about the person, all you need is one piece of information at a minimum. The system to complete a search for all the entries that match that information. For example if all you know is someone's room number, that will give you a match. Or if you only know someone's last name that search will provide many matches but you should be able to determine the correct one based on the other information such as department and room number.
Note: If you discover the person has out of date or incorrect information in the phonebook, have them update their information in the system - How do I update my Department information in the Digital Phonebook?

Microsoft Outlook

In Outlook, you can use the Global Address List (GAL) to locate a person.
  1. Start composing a new email, and press the To: button. This will open the GAL.
  2. Enter the name of the person you are looking for and the GAL will match the name.
In Outlook on your desktop (Outlook 2010/2013/2016), search works as above.
In Outlook 365 (LiveAC or online Outlook), the default is your list of contacts. For a more in-depth list, select >> to see a list of search options including All Groups, All Rooms, All Users, and All Distribution lists. Choose the appropriate list and enter the name you are searching for.
  1. When you see the correct name, highlight it and right-click on it.
  2. Select Properties to see that person's information including extension and room number.

myAC

Note: You can only search by name in myAC.
  1. Login to myAC.
  2. Select the People tab on the top menu.
  3. Enter part of the person's name in the Search bar, and press the Search button.
Note: For people to be listed in myAC, they need to have an updated Digital Phonebook entry, see How do I update my Department information in the Digital Phonebook?
